FOR THE LOVE OF IT (VOL.18)
For the Love of It” is a series that explores Tarik’s deep passion for creation and self-expression through painting. He seeks out unusual, unpopulated locations to refine his skills and find solace from the stresses of life and the weight of past experiences. This process not only serves as a therapeutic escape but also rekindles his connection to the stories he aims to tell through his art. When his creative space feels overwhelming, these quiet spots become his sanctuary, allowing him to rediscover the joy of painting and the narratives woven into each piece.
Title: “Fruitful Healing”
Dimensions: 800cm x 650cm
Medium: Exterior paint, acrylic paint and spray paint on concrete.
Description: This artwork captures the raw essence of humiliation, revealing the vulnerable self in a pivotal moment of transformation—a step toward becoming who you are destined to be. It evokes intense emotions of hatred and disgust, as if purging something deep within me that needed release. Yet, woven into the piece is a thread of joy and hope, reflecting the duality of struggle and aspiration.
Reflecting on this painting stirs mixed feelings. At times, I believe art like this is meant to be felt solely by the creator during its making, not meant for public eyes. It embodies the process of trial and error, a bold step forward in a space traditionally dominated by conventional graffiti.
I am grateful to those I met while painting in this alley. To the homeless man who carried his artwork in a garbage bag, proudly sharing his creations and claiming to know Banksy—may the art supplies I gave you fuel your creativity for years to come. To the young photographer, emboldened by his new birthday camera, who courageously asked to capture my work—your passion inspires me.
